Poverty elimination and food security are two of the main goals of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda (SDGs). The progress made over a quarter of the century towards achieving the SDGs has been abruptly halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It was estimated that between 119 and 124 million new people were pushed into poverty in 2020.
