Topic: Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022: Climate Change (ASCC Pillar)

Amid the busy agenda of the post-pandemic recovery, climate change is still one of the hottest issues of discussion on both regional and international stages. Every year, the United Nations holds a conference on climate change, and the meeting allows the UNFCCC parties to sit down and together address the common climate challenges. Undoubtedly, ASEAN as a regional organization, has also put a lot of efforts on this matter. Last year, ASEAN launched the ASEAN State of Climate Change Report (ASCCR), and Brunei Darussalam also initiated the ASEAN Climate Change Centre. These show the commitments of ASEAN in dealing with the impacts of climate change. 

Cambodia, in particular, submitted its Long-Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on 30 December 2021, and was the first ASEAN’s member state to launch the Long-term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality by 2050 in early this year. This demonstrates the kingdom’s commitment and dedication in response to climate change. By seeing such active engagements from all state and non-state actors, in the 5^th episode of the Asian Vision Dialogue, we meet with H.E Tin Ponlok, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, to gain more insights particularly on Climate Change, under the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Pillar (ASCC Pillar), during Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022.
